Pilgrims circumambulate
via a series of courtyards and corridors the inner walls of the Jokhang temple,
Lhasa. The courtyard was dark, light only entering from above, so exposure
times for photographs were long. I noticed the same pilgrims came round again
and again at 10 minute intervals, so I sat on the ground with my back against
a pillar, my camera resting on my knees prefocused to the spot I knew the
pilgrims would reappear. When they reached the spot I had only to press the
cable release.
This woman
was with a party of family members. There was a great sense of purpose and
concentration about her, the rest of the family trying to keep up. |
