Around the
Barkhor in Lhasa are many traders, lots of hustle and bustle. The monk with
his back to me (front right) is keeping his head down below the height of
the monk with the mala beads as a way of showing respect - respect for the
wisdom of the teachings. The area is very religious and at the same time,
full of wheeling and dealing.
Pitched battles
between Tibetans and Chinese have occurred on several occasions here and I
feel sad imagining that. There are always Chinese police or military around
keeping an eye on activities. They stopped me from taking a photograph of
them. |
